Shazz

Lady Shazz in her palace.

Biography[]

Shazz is a gigantic pterosaur of an unknown species that appeared in The Skies of Fear. She was the High Flapper of Squawk Major and had a reputation as a wise and kind ruler of all flying reptiles. She called the DSS through the Long Squawk for help after the people of her planet began to lose their ability to fly. Eventually, she lost it herself. Teggs, Arx, Gipsy, Iggy, the Alarm Pterosaur, and even the dimorphodon finally arrived on Squawk Major to find out what was wrong, and Shazz was explaining that she was in the last year of her time as ruler when a monstrous pterosaur, Grandum, arrived and bragged about how he would become High Flapper, insulting Shazz and Gipsy before leaving. To protect her population from a future under Grandum's rule, Shazz agreed to cancel the Trials until the other pterosaurs had recovered, but Grandum persuaded a Meeting of the Flock to call for them to take place, claiming that Shazz wanted to keep her position by eliminating any competition.

Desperate to save her planet, Shazz agreed to let Teggs dress up as a large feathered pterosaur called Flappo the Fearless, the only pterosaur who was in on the plan. She allowed the astrosaurs to use her royal carriage as a repair site for the costume and a base to control the Flappo-suit from remotely. After Teggs exposed Grandum as a mammoth who was trying to take over Squawk Major and Alass Tikka destroyed the evil industrialist's hypno-beam, Shazz regained her ability to fly along with her people.

Shazz was presumably reelected as High Flapper or her term is not yet finished, as she appeared as a guest at Admiral Rosso's party at the end of Earth Attack! to celebrate General Loki's defeat. She is seen talking to Sprite, Dactil, and the rest of the Sauropod's flight crew.

Trivia[]

  • Shazz's species is not named in the books, but her appearance suggests she is a pterosaur of a very large species - possibly a Quetzalcoatlus, Hatzegopteryx, or Arambourgiania. Her head-crest resembles that of a Pteranodon, however.
